CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Dear Colleague,

On behalf of the Scientific and Local Organising Committees, we are delighted to invite you to submit an abstract for consideration for a presentation at the 40th Annual Conference of the European Health Psychology. This conference has the theme of “Digital Innovations in Health: Harnessing the Power of Technology and AI” and will be held in Pafos, Cyprus, September 1-4, 2026.

We are excited to announce this year’s presentation formats. Please read the synopsis below carefully before deciding which format is most appropriate for your submission.

Please note that individuals can only give ONE standard oral presentation/ spotlight talk/ state-of-the-art presentation/ poster in addition to a contribution to a roundtable or acting as a discussant/ activity coordinator in a symposium.

The presentation formats are:

1. Standard Oral Presentations

12 minutes talk to present and discuss empirical study or literature review findings + 3 minutes for questions.

2. Short Oral Presentations

Concentrated oral presentation with a focus on key findings and their implications, with 7 minutes talk + 3 minutes for questions, (7min+3min updated on 7/01/2026) a) open to all; b) early career researcher presenters only (“spotlight talks”), with a discussant allocated by the CREATE committee.

3. Symposia (total of 90 minutes)

Symposia provide an opportunity for a coherent grouping of 12+3 minute presentations focused on a particular topic and with a discussant or activity. The exact format of the presentations within the 90 minute symposia are decided by the chairs/convenors, but each section should be in increments of 15 minutes. It can, for example, include 4×15 minute presentations, a 15 minute discussion, followed by 15 minutes of an interactive activity; or 5 x 15 minute presentations and a 15 minute discussion. Symposia must include at least one interactive component (e.g., discussion, activity) and presenters from at least 2 countries.

4. Roundtables/debates/showcase (60 minutes)

The goal of a roundtable is to raise issues and topics for interaction and debate or to showcase a new method or technology. The time must not be solely taken by speaker presentations; at least 30 minutes must be left for audience participation. This type of submission should include between 2 and 6 speakers delivering short presentations (maximum 30 minutes in total), with a chair guiding discussion and debate between each speaker and the audience either at the end, or after each speaker, or a combination of both. Sessions require participants from at least 2 countries.

5. State-of-the-art presentations (45 minutes)

This type of presentation will be allocated 35 minutes of presentation time + 10 minutes for questions. These should reflect a substantive program of work, providing novel empirical or theoretical insights for health psychology. Submissions not accepted for this format will be invited for consideration as a regular oral presentation but note the significant change in time allocation (12+3 minutes).

6. Posters

This submission type offers the opportunity to visually present study protocols, reviews or empirical findings and can also include work in progress. Posters will be grouped in chaired sessions according to the track so as to encourage meaningful interaction.

7. Pre-conference Workshops

There are two options – half-day and full-day workshops. A workshop provides an opportunity for a group of participants to achieve a specific goal or address a particular problem. It may be designed to train or educate participants in a particular research methodology or theoretical approach or to address a specific problem, such as how to use particular research findings in health care or policy.

The conference will be mainly in person, but we will provide an option for delegates to participate online, should they be unable to attend in person. Online oral presentations will need to be pre-recorded on video, as a back up, and played during in-person sessions, in case internet connectivity is poor. Online posters will be made available through the conference online platform. Please see the submission guidelines for more information.

Online Experience

EHPS 2026 will offer a hybrid format with opportunities for online participation. To support attendees in deciding whether to join in person or online, we provide the following information in advance:

  •  Online presenters will be able to deliver their presentations live.
  •  Online attendees will be able to follow sessions in real time through streamed oral sessions.
  •  Due to the nature of physical conference discussions, full interactivity (e.g., participating in Q&A during on-site oral sessions) may be limited.
  •  Clear guidance for session chairs will be provided to optimise the inclusion of online presenters.
  •  Volunteers and room staff will receive enhanced training to support hybrid sessions.
  •  More detailed instructions for online presenters, online attendees, and session chairs will be published closer to the conference, once room layouts and technical arrangements have been finalised.
