Sustainability Initiative
What we do
- Sustainable catering: We will work closely with the venue to prioritise vegetarian and plant-forward catering options throughout the conference wherever possible. While lunches are served as part of the main hotel menu for all guests and will therefore include meat and fish options, EHPS-exclusive catering, such as opening reception snacks, will be vegetarian.
- Digital-first conference materials: We will continue the “no printed handbook” policy and provide the programme exclusively through the conference app. This aligns with attendee preferences expressed at previous meetings and recommendations from Easy Conference.
- Reducing unnecessary conference materials: Conference bags and lanyards will be optional rather than automatically distributed, helping to minimise waste.
- Reusing badge holders: Badge holders will be collected after the conference for reuse at future events.
- Reducing single-use plastics: Wherever possible, we will minimise disposable plastics, for example by using refillable water jugs instead of individual plastic bottles.
- Clear recycling facilities: Clearly marked recycling points will be available throughout the venue to support responsible waste disposal.
- Post-conference sustainability review: Following the conference, we will prepare a short summary for the EC outlining the sustainability measures implemented and key lessons learned to inform future EHPS meetings.
What you can do
If possible, you can help reduce your attendance carbon footprint by:
- Choosing lower-emission travel options where feasible — for example, preferring direct flights, flying economy class, selecting airlines with higher fuel efficiency, or committing to taking one less flight this year. See the Travel information page for more details.
- Using public transport to and from the airport whenever possible.
- Choosing eco-certified or sustainability-focused accommodation.
- Using air conditioning responsibly during your stay on the island.
- Eating plant-based meals as often as you can — it’s good for both the planet and your health.
